Astron has been awarded the contract to supply its underground cable cover manufactured from recycled plastic to the Macarthur Wind farm. The project is one of the largest wind farms in the Southern Hemisphere and represents an investment of approximately $1 billion. Astron will be supplying 96km in total; this represents 130 tonnes of recycled plastic being kept from land fill.

This is significant milestone for Astron – using plastic waste in a commercially viable manner. The Macarthur Wind Farm is located approximately 16km east of the township of Macarthur in Western Victoria and, when completed, will consist of 140 wind-turbines that will generate enough clean, green energy to power the equivalent of 220,000 average Victorian households per year, with greenhouse gas emission savings of over 1.7 million tonnes per annum.

The Macarthur Wind Farm will contribute to the governments expanded Renewable Energy Targets, aimed at creating a sustainable energy future for all Australians.
